Overview
Retired Chief Warrant Officer 3 Lamar Webster Powell never received a college degree; however, he knew the importance of education and desired that his heirs have opportunities that he didn't. As such, Lamar W. Powell Family Scholarship was established in 2015, funded by the Lamar W. Powell Revocable Trust. This namesake faction identified funds for his descendants to obtain a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or postgraduate degree during four consecutive years of matriculation.
Since the establishment of the Lamar W. Powell Family Scholarship, recipients have earned degrees from The University of Houston, New York University, Tennessee State University, and the University of Nevada-Reno to name a few. Chief Warrant Officer Powell’s heirs receive full-tuition scholarships as well as $1,000 towards textbooks each semester. Fees are paid from the trust’s investments and governed by the Executrix and Trustee, Dr. Thea H. Williams-Black.
