Scholarship Guidelines

Family members of Lamar W. Powell may be eligible and may apply for the Lamar W. Powell Family Scholarship and will qualify according to the following guidelines:.

 

  • Must have a high school diploma, a high school equivalency diploma, or official home school documentation

  • Must be pursuing a four-year degree at a fully accredited college or university

  • Must be a proven descendent of Lamar W. Powell

  • Must maintain a 2.5 GPA undergraduate, 2.5 GPA graduate per term

  • Must attend all Academy sessions

  • Must attend mandatory individualized coaching sessions

 

The scholarship is offered during Fall and Spring terms only, and will pay for the following:

  • Tuition, room, and meals up to $50,000/academic year for no more than four consecutive years

  • Up to $1,000/term (Fall and Spring) for books and incidentals for no more than four consecutive years

  • Fees due and owing will be paid directly to the college/university on behalf of the recipient after awards from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other scholarships are posted to the recipient’s account. Recipient will be notified upon remittance of payment.

The scholarship does not pay for for the following:

  • Off-campus housing (i.e. apartments)

  • Single occupancy (private) rooms

  • Summer school tuition or fees except for required graduate programs

  • Late fees

  • Computers, laptops, software

  • Certifications

  • Continuing education

The administrator of the Lamar W. Powell Family Scholarship reserves these rights: 

  • To exercise discretion to increase or decrease the awarded amount  to an applicant

  •  To limit scholarship awards to five (5) applicants per academic year, with the recipient selection criteria and process being determined and established within the full and complete discretion of the administrator; and,

  • To alter or terminate amounts being granted to each recipient at any time during the 48 consecutive month period in which applicant is eligible

This discretion is without any requirement of equality of treatment to any recipient/beneficiary. All scholarship recipients must maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA for undergraduates and a 2.5 or higher GPA for graduates to receive funding the academic year following the initial award. If this grade point average is not maintained, the recipient suspended for one full Fall or Spring term. After which, the family member must reapply for the scholarship. However, funds that were paid on behalf of the recipient will be deducted from the total amount a recipient can receive from the Lamar W. Powell Family Scholarship within the 48 consecutive month period.

Spring Enrollment.................................October 30th

Summer Enrollment...........................March 30th (Graduate Programs ONLY)
